This month's story_works Take A Leap challenge is to Invite someone else to try something new with you.

Now, since we're back in lockdown, doing that on a face-to-face basis won't work and I'm not really sure how much this counts, but I'm going to list some things I've discovered in the last few months you, too, may like.

1. Gloucestershire Bundles

Which doesn't really count, in that I've been volunteering with them for the past few years, but I'm now more involved. I'm also including them because I was partnered with someone before our work team meeting this week and told him all about them, and I think he may send a donation.

Gloucestershire Bundles is a local charity which provides clothing and equipment for mothers-to-be, babies and children up to age 16 for families in need.  And in the current situation they are being called on for assistance even more.

Now, while I'm obviously keen to support Bundles, I would encourage anyone to check out their own local baby bank - they're all around the UK and I understand there are some in the US too.


2. Shedunnit podcast

I started listening a few months ago and have slowly heard all but two of the episodes - which are Christmas themed ones, so I'm keeping them until next month.  There are now 50 episodes in all.  It's described as the podcast that enravels the mysteries behind the classic detective stories.  Its main basis is the inter-war Golden Age of crime, but the reach is far greater.  The episodes are a mixture of themes, authors and famous true crimes.  Listen here.


3. E C R Lorac

As a direct result of listening to the podcast I learnt about the author E C R Lorac and have read a couple of her books, with another one reserved from the library.  As I said in my recent book review, I'd thoroughly recommend her.


4. Get_Knitted a new DW crafting community

Recently set up by my friend badly_knitted this is a community for everyone who likes to craft, and not just knit.  It's a place to chat, share progress and generally enjoy crafting.  Head over to get_knitted to take a look.


5. Zoom Advent

I've agreed to lead a series of zoom meetings for Advent for our local churches.  Not particularly relevant here, but included because it's something new which I'm sharing with anyone who's interested, and therefore fits the category!

Thanks for sharing this list with us. I'm a big fan of podcasts, so I'll definitely have to check out the Shedunnit podcast. I'll also make a note of E C R Lorac as I enjoy reading mysteries as well. :-)

Thank you so much for the heads-up about get_knitted! I would have assumed it was just knitting and maybe crochet at a stretch! I've joined - not very active at the moment but I have a lot of projects in cold storage!!

It's a comm I could have done with last year. I joined a craft exchange comm and of course couldn't report on progress because it was all a bit like a secret santa!! I haven't kept up with it - there were various flaws in the arrangements, not least that it involved sending parcels to other countries.

Thank you for sharing! I like the idea of Zoom meetings for Advent. A great way to bring together the church community during this time.

I had to look up what a podcast was, and learned something new yay. Not for me, however interesting subject!

So many interesting things! The Shedunnit podcast looks like a good thing for me. Get_knitted looks good too, but I'm not that great with crafts and haven't crocheted (can't knit for peanuts) for years. Still, you never know, I might get back into it.

A few of these I have on my to-do list but I don't know that it'll be soon. I am listening to the Shedunnit podcast and I've joined the book club and read the book for November. And I've signed up for their holiday card exchange, too.

I will read some E C R Lorac. Maybe December? I have at least two books that are very overdue (the library went fine free and I have been abusing my freedom) and a bunch of reads for an The Old Guard fic. On and on.

Also, on the to-do is to participate in the craft comm. Haven't gotten around to that, either, but I joined it.

There's no rush - I was just sharing a bunch of stuff in the hope that a few people would find something of interest. I discovered The Poisoned Chocolates Case was on BBC Sounds as a dramatised version, so decided I listen to it, rather than borrow the book from the library.

Yeah I find The Poisoned Chocolates Case interesting but not super interesting and Berkely likes his prat flag fly a bit (like you would expect) so I think listening to it is fine.
