The Friday Five: A Family Set

1. Did you grow up with your parents together as a unit?
Yes, and they celebrated their golden wedding before my father died.

2. Did you reach adulthood with four living grandparents?
Not quite, my maternal grandfather died when I was 17.  My paternal grandfather died the following year, but I didn't go to his funeral as I had just started at university.  Then my maternal grandmother died in the year between SM and I getting engaged and getting married, which was sad because we'd hoped she would make it to the wedding.  My last grandmother died some years later.  I missed her funeral too as our son, then a toddler, had chickenpox.

3. Is your extended family a close one or not?
No.

4. Does your family have a 'black sheep'?
Not that I know of, although there have been some in the past I believe.  I do have a cousin in Ireland who has sheep, but I think they're white.

5. What is your first memory of a family member that is not your mother(s) or father(s)?
I remember visiting my grandparents who lived within walking distance of us when I was small.

Interesting! Especially the possibly white Irish sheep of the family!

Thank you. My cousin was rebellious as a teen, but is now settled down with two sons of her own - I suspect she just wanted to do her own thing rather than conform to her mother's expectations.
