The second day of our tour saw us exploring the American beaches and beginning to look at the area behind the beaches.

We began at the American cemetery which overlooks Omaha beach:

From there we moved onto Sainte-Mere-Eglise, where the paratrooper famously got caught on the church steeple when landing:

And then onto Utah beach:

After which we went to the little church at Angoville au Plain, where two American medics treated casualties

We then visited a German cemetery, because whatever the politics, many were simply fathers, sons and husbands

And finally another Commonwealth War Graves cemetery

Lovely stained glass and I really like the last photo of the purple flower arches.

It's good that the tour included German cemeteries as well. I love the photos of the two churches, especially the ones with the stained glass windows. The wisteria in the last photo is beautiful! I don't usually think of wisteria being in cemeteries, though cemeteries often have gardens.
