Audiobooks: October and November 2022
Nov. 16th, 2022 08:32 pmA further five audiobooks:
Marple: Twelve New Stories by various authors. Read by various narrators. Twelve new Miss Marple stories, which could have been good, but generally weren't. I enjoyed a few but felt in some ways it was like playing bingo and listening out for certain words/phrases. And sadly the final story was very disappointing which meant it finished on a down note.
A Sliver of Darkness by C J Tudor. Read by various narrators, including Richard Armitage. This is the author's first short story collection - I'm not a great fan of chilling tales in general, but I do like her stories, so I found it very enjoyable. Armitage only narrates one of the stories, which I'd heard before, but that wasn't a problem.
Summer Lightening by P G Wodehouse. Read by Stephen Fry. This is part of the Blandings collection and highly entertaining. Stephen Fry has the perfect voice for the period and characters.
The Wombles by Elisabeth Beresford. Read by Bernard Cribbens. Although I'd watched The Wombles many years ago, and have fond memories of Orinoco and friends, I'd never read the book. It was delightful listening to Cribbens read about all the wombles and their work keeping Wimbledon Common clear of rubbish.
Geneva by Richard Armitage. Read by Richard Armitage, Nicola Walker and Jane Perry. This is Armitage's debut novel, so I was always going to listen to it. I didn't have major expectations, which was as well. It's a thriller, much publicised by Audible, but so over complicated that it becomes implausible. Parts are simply unrealistic, and I thought the ending unsatisfactory.
