Mr Eccles decides to marry Ella, because by his reasoning, who else would have her? He appears in 20,000 Streets Under The Sky, both in The Midnight Bell and in The Plains of Cement.
Mr Eccles carried the small bunch of flowers into the Midnight Bell and, ignoring Bob, currently serving at the bar, waited until Ella came over to give them to her. She looked at them, smiled politely, and said she would go and put them in water. Mr Eccles was pleased, he doubted anyone ever gave her flowers, so he was sure she would be delighted with them. They hadn’t cost him a lot, he saw no point in wasting money, plus he felt good since he’d given the flower seller money she wouldn’t have had when she’d thrown them away.
