Fandom 50 (36): Swan Lake - The Prince

smallhobbitSir Matthew Bourne's version of Swan Lake is known as the one with the male swans. And in Pride Month it seems appropriate to be celebrating a dance production where a gay relationship is central to the story. I first saw the production in December 2018 and have a ticket to see the new production in January 2025.

Beginning with the Prince, who is lonely and feels manipulated by those around him.
For a while he stood in the nightclub, completely unrecognised by the other clubbers. He had thought that was what he wanted, somewhere to be himself and not Your Royal Highness, but nothing in his training had covered how to introduce himself to a stranger, for everyone was introduced to him. And it didn’t take him long to realise that a night club wasn’t the place to go by himself, for everyone else either came with a group or had arranged to meet friends there. Despondent he left and headed for the lake, which had always been his ultimate destination.
