Berlin and former East Germany
Apr. 29th, 2026 06:11 pmOur travels took us to Berlin.
Beginning with Berlin War Cemetery

From there we went to the Air Force Museum, which had a collection of aircraft down through the years, together with an extremely good section on WWI, including tracing the war career of one of the first German pilots, from his beginning in the trenches to his life after the war.

A brief stop at the Berlin Olympics of 1936 stadium

Up to the top of where one of the main Flak Towers was

And down into the centre of Berlin, and the monument to the Jews killed by the Nazi regime

And the Brandenburg Gate

And ending the day at Checkpoint Charlie, the crossing point from West to East Berlin

The following morning we visited the largest of the Soviet war cemeteries

And finally visiting the memorial to Checkpoint Alpha, the crossing point between east and west Germany
