Sherlock: Respect
Nov. 29th, 2013 07:08 pmYesterday we were being encouraged to "pay your respects" to Sherlock. Sherlock is a character, a creation, not a real person. I pay my respects to those who have died; on Remembrance Sunday I stood outside at the war memorial in silence, paying my respects.
The amount of hype that surrounds the new series of Sherlock is ridiculous. I really doubt that the episodes will justify this. Of course, those involved have been saying it's amazing. No-one would expect an actor to say "it's not as good as last series, you can spot the plot holes a mile off." And yes, I do still consider the resolution of the almost blowing up of the swimming pool at the beginning of series two to be a cop-out.
And then today there is a hearse, driving through central London in rush hour, to advertise the air date. Totally unnecessary and thoughtless. Did someone say something about respect?
Because they have lost mine.
