A couple of weeks ago at management meeting we were discussing the need for singing.  For those of you who have forgotten, I work in a supported living community for youngish adults with learning difficulties.  And there are occasions where everyone celebrates the festivals - Christmas, Easter etc (it's a Christian based community, but there's no expectation of staff).  In a moment of madness I said "I used to play the recorder."  Which I then rapidly qualified with "But I don't have one now."

"No problem," said my boss.  "Order one from Amazon."

I ordered two: one descant, one treble (alto).  I looked at the music.  The descant recorder is horribly high and not easy to sing to (not that I can sing, and anyway, if I was playing I wouldn't need to).  The treble recorder, which I like, doesn't quite reach the bottom notes.  Sigh.  So I borrowed SM's keyboard and picked out the notes.  It was okay.

Next day was the weekly Morning Gathering.  It's a half hour gathering open to all, but attended by mostly residents (who can come or not as they please) with a Bible story or other story (we've worked our way through The Selfish Giant and The Little Prince) - books with pictures are especially popular, and we have a large illustrated Bible story book.  And I thumped out the song one fingered on the piano and everyone sang along.  Never would I have expected to play the piano semi-publically.
