It really isn't that difficult ...
Nov. 13th, 2014 10:26 pm... but yes, apparently it is. In other words, Brownie night.
Last week we played games and had an enrolment. Pleasingly, of the four who were enrolled, two had made a real effort to learn the promise and the law; one stumbled a bit, out of nerves, but the other was very sure. It was lovely also to see the involvement of their families - there are times when we feel like a baby sitting service, but the dad of one of the girls even requested she go first so that he could watch before going to work.
As expected we had lost a couple more girls over the half term break, but there were five new ones. Of whom four came back for the second week tonight, which looks promising. Whereas in the past most girls will come up from Rainbows, or will have had older sisters/family connections, now the girls who come have no Guiding experience, so they really don't know what to expect.
This week we made owls from the cardboard tubes from toilet rolls. An easy craft that
thirdbird_fic was using in her library - I asked her for the instructions. The first challenge was to wrap a piece of coloured paper round the roll and stick it - once this bit had been mastered the addition of wings, googly eyes and beak were easy. In the end it was a simple craft, but the result was appealling and nearly all of them made a second owl, so they must have enjoyed it.
