We stayed in Germany in two Maritim hotels, very posh!  The first, in Timmendorfer Strand, was lovely.  It had two salt water swimming pools, one inside and one outside.  SM swam in the outside one every day.  I tried it, but preferred the indoor one - whilst the water in the pool was warm, the air wasn't.  I could definitely get used to wandering downstairs and going for a swim every day.

The hotel in Cologne was very swish, but the atmosphere was totally different, as could probably be expected in a hotel in a major city.  Rather more like being on the Starship Enterprise.  It had posh glass lifts going up and down in the middle of the building (yes, I did say 'Beam me up, Scotty' on one occasion).  The shower was amazing - all square buttons: on/off, hotter (the temperature was displayed in the panel), colder, water from the ceiling instead of the shower head, and lastly colour changing (although we didn't try that, one of our party not wearing her glasses found it while trying to locate the on/off switch).  But the staff were very condescending because we were only a coach party.  The staff in the first hotel were extremely polite, friendly and helpful and as far as I'm concerned, more professional.

One of the delights at the first hotel was having your breakfast omelette or fried eggs cooked as you waited.  I ate far more eggs than normal simply for the pleasure of so doing.  We didn't eat quite as much cake as last time - the breakfasts were so good we really weren't that hungry during the day - and I did manage to walk out with a pastry or two for second breakfast ;)  There was however some cake:

I did go paddling one day - after all, you can't go to the seaside without paddling.  I only went ankle deep - the sea was cold!

We did an amazing amount while we were away.  I would have liked a bit more time to read and write, but overall it didn't matter.  I discovered I could write on the coach when we were crawling into Cologne (our driver was very smooth), so at least I could pass the time reasonably profitably and the travelling did prove useful for working on plots.

But, all good things have to come to an end:

Calais

So, farewell to Calais and hello Dover.
