smallhobbit: (screech owl)
The observant amongst you will have realised that since today is Thursday this post is probably Brownie related.

So, we're working for the Safety in the Home badge, with a side helping of fake injuries.  Because what better way of learning what you should do in the face of an injury than apply a fake one.  Thus for a cut you first apply the skin and then using the plastic knife make a cut in it to which you add your fake blood.  It worked surprisingly well.  We tried the process out on my arm first and the number of girls who recoiled as I showed them my bleeding arm was hilarious.  Although one Brownie pointed out I looked too happy about having a large cut.  Then we gave them skin and blood to try out for themselves - having warned them they didn't need to use much blood as it was threatening to drip off my arm and all over the floor.

"Is it real blood?"  Of course, Brown Owl makes a habit of driving round with a jar of blood in her bag.  Er no, it's treacle and red food colouring.

They then got to bandage their wounds, which led to an almost universal cry of "Can we go home like this?"  So we sent most of them home with bandages and fake bruises (we'd wiped the fake burns off earlier).  The early parents saw a room full of Brownies looking a bit like a WW1 field hospital and realised what we'd been doing.  Those that came late had a bit of a shock and at least one mum looked horrified before being informed as to how much fun it was.

I came home and removed bruises from my work trousers.
