More Sticking and Less Talking
Oct. 2nd, 2014 09:39 pmYes, this is, of course, a Brownie post. Today Brown Owl's sister came and showed the girls how to make little pumpkin lights for Hallowe'en. They were so simple: tear up pieces of orange tissue paper and glue them on the outside of a cheap drinking glass. Add eyes/nose/mouth made from black paper. Put little LED night light inside. They looked incredibly effective and the girls really enjoyed making them.
It's been quite a crafty time so far this term. A couple of weeks ago they made owl mirrors - little make up mirrors with owl shapes on the back and also owl fridge magnets. Very easy to do, which with only two of us leading was a good thing. Last week we provided the coloured bin bags and challenged them to work in groups to produce outfits. It's amazing what you can do with pink, purple and yellow bin bags - possibly not the height of fashion, but definitely a chance to express themselves.
As we expected the numbers have fallen slightly - a couple of those who came the first week didn't come back. I suspect we were a little overwhelming. But the majority have continued to come and are as enthusiastic as the rest. We continue to enjoy being in the new community centre, with room to play games without tripping over each other and sinks to clean up after using glue.
Next week, as the 100th Brownie Birthday celebrations come to an end we begin working on the Brownie Traditions badge.
