Storm Front by Jim Butcher

Last December I wrote the Fan Flashworks social post for "Books" challenge.  In it I asked for favourite book fandoms. There were a number of recommendations, and my aim for the next few months is to work through them, therefore ensuring a continued varied read.  Storm Front is the first of the Dresden Files.  I quite enjoyed the book, and can see why it would be appealing, but with the theme of magic it's never going to be my thing, so I won't read any more.  But if you like magicians who fight crime I would try it.  Counts for LJBookBingo Fantasy, Sci-Fi, Paranormal square.

Belinda by Maria Edgeworth

I'd been following a FutureLearn course on Jane Austen, and when I commented that Austen wrote about quite a narrow field, one of the leaders of the course recommended trying Belinda.  It's far more racy, and concerns the haute-monde in London, which was fun, but Edgeworth lacks Austen's ability to describe her characters.  An interesting read, something I would never have considered otherwise (fortunately there was a copy in the county library vaults), but not an author I'd read again.  Counts for One Word Title.

Dead Men Don't Ski by Patricia Moyes

Recommended by [personal profile] stonepicnicking_okapi  as something which I would like, with a competent detective.  I did enjoy it.  I liked the descriptions and enjoyed the plot, with its twists and turns.  A relatively standard crime novel, but with a sufficiently different plot to keep me engaged.  Counts for Female Author.

Enter a Murderer by Ngaio Marsh

Second in the Inspector Alleyn series.  I've had a heavy cold this week, so it's been perfect for reading in bed.  This is another series I will be working my way through.  Counts for TV Tie-In/Book Made into a TV Show.

My book bingo card can be found here.  It shows I'm almost at my first Bingo, but since that's the Free Space, it will have to wait until I read a book which fails to fit into any other category.  There's plenty of time yet!
