Well, it was for me, because I missed the first week because I was on holiday, and then last week as I was fulfilling my role as a dutiful mother.  Incidentally, that is the same role which has me agreeing to go and see Joseph in London because, and I quote, 'It opens the day after my birthday and it seemed like a sign'.  To avoid confusion that's TD's birthday, not mine.  And which caused me to book to see Wicked on the Friday evening of the weekend in November she and I are in London to see the Saturday matinee of Mary Poppins.

But enough of my offspring, and back to the Brownies.  This week we were doing 'Odd Socks'.  Each girl had a sock, which she had to decorate, including googly eyes, decide on a character for the sock, and then, in groups of three, use the sock puppets to act out a short story.  Doodles was leading, but she was losing her voice, so I took over part way through.  The Brownies enjoyed themselves, bits of the sock decorations fell off during the story telling, but they all did their best.

After which we had an enrolment for our four latest girls.  For the first time, the one girl who was always talking and drawing attention to herself grew very nervous and had to be helped through her promise by everyone saying it together.  The second one, generally quieter, also had help.  The third managed to say the promise by helself, very quietly, with a little prompting.  And the fourth burst into tears, but with some encouragement made it to the middle of the circle (Brownie ring) and then very clearly made her promise all by herself.

Today, 15 of the Brownies go on Pack Holiday with Doodles and various other leaders.  I'm not going, although I did offer to go tomorrow for the day - we go on holiday on Monday, and I knew I'd need some time to myself between finishing work and going away.  I'm also Home Contact, which means if there is a problem of a major nature (say the Brownie house is flooded) Doodles phones me and I then contact all the parents.  It's not an onerous role, but vital, and compulsory for all residential trips.  It will be very unlikely I'm contacted, although I had to phone my home contact once when at an event camping with the Guides and the weather was so bad we had to finish early.

Not at all! In fact I'd love to read what you come up with. I'm inundated with plot bunnies and don't have time to take on any more right now.

You'll have to be careful, otherwise you'll open a cupboard one day and be inundated with Snocks!

Oh, the poor nervous kiddos, it's a scary thing, making the promise. I'm glad they got through and that everyone was supportive.

The puppets sound adorable and messy. Awesome kid fun.

I’m glad the group was able to support the nervous and scared ones.
