My final set of questions came from [personal profile] luthienberen

#3. Any guilty pleasures (books/fics)
Cosy mysteries which don't require much mental input.  Also writers from the Golden Age of crime fiction, in particular Ngaio Marsh and Margery Allingham.

#9. If you could wish for a new book from any author, who would it be?
That's a tough one.  There have been times when I've been excited because an author I've liked has written a new book and I haven't enjoyed it as much as some of their others.  Maria Duenas published her fourth novel last year, and I'm looking forward to it being translated into English.

#29 20s AU or 50s AU
Definitely the 20s.  I'm current writing a Spooks series based in the early 20s: Enter the Twenties

And now another meme, one that I haven't done for a while:

I have 15 characters, all of whom I've listed in order already.  Ask a question, such as #01 and #03 go on a picnic with #05 - who brings what and who forgets something important?  And I will answer it, probably in a post at the end of this week.  One thing to note when asking the questions, I shall be including some of my OCs.

And lastly the lake at Tredegar House:

2 and 5 have arranged to spend the weekend at a country house. 10, 15, 3 and 6 are also staying there when the power goes out.

What did 8 do?

(You did mention you love cosies)

Lovely photo!

I knew the answers to two of them, but I don't remember you mentioning Maria Duenas. My library has a couple of hers. What's your favourite?

For the second half, 4 and 11 go to a sporting event (your choice what kind). Which one bets on the results? Which one thinks they're going to bored but end up getting into it and buying all the swag (t-shirts, commemorative mugs, foam finger, etc.)? Does anyone get in a fight in the stands?

Ooo very interesting, thank you for answering. I like the 20s too, and I should imagine Spooks would fit that era well.

Hmmm...02 and 03 go with 010 for a cinema showing of old Universal Classics, (such as The Wolf Man 1941 etc.). Who is afraid / loves it / bored?

Edit: And I meant to add, I hope the wait for your next book is well rewarded :]

:D

...And that was slightly (fun) ominous about what the answer may be!

7, 12 and 13 are wallpapering the parlour. Who has chosen the design of the paper? Who ends up doing all the work? Who gets glued to the wall... and why?

And I'm with you re the guilty pleasures ^___^

I enjoy mysteries, including traditional ones like Ngaio Marsh and Margery Allingham. I've come to realise that when a modern book blurb calls it a cosy mystery the chances are I will be bored. I do need some character or world building to get my teeth into outside the mystery itself, and I am rarely thrilled by amateur housewife-type detectives who stumble over murder after murder. Cops do that, yes, and even private investigators. Housewives etc?? Not so much.

Quite. Oxford doesn't defy belief in quite the same way, and of course nor does London!
