A few weeks ago I had a phone call from The Daughter, asking if I'd like to go to see a play with her this week.  I said I'd already arranged to see a play on the Friday with friends in London, but could come up on the Thursday and would use up some annual leave and miss Brownies.  Which is what we arranged I would do - take the train to Coventry on Thursday (not arriving too early as she was out to lunch with work friends) and then get the train from Coventry to London on the Friday.

Three years ago we'd gone to see The Play Which Goes Wrong at the Belgrade Theatre in Coventry and this is another of the same sort.  (UK flist may like to watch The Goes Wrong Show on iplayer).  In this play anything which can go wrong will go wrong.  Yet it isn't cringeworthy, but just hilarious.  There is slapstick, but it's very well done, and the audience is left with an appreciation of the timing of the performers.  And most of the time you don't anticipate what's going to happen, so it really is very funny.

As you will gather, TD and I thoroughly enjoyed ourselves.  It was also good to catch up with her.  And the light bulb for her bathroom arrived the day afterwards!  ('You'll have to take your phone with you when you use the bathroom, so you can see when it's dark'!)

I've wanted to see The Play Which Goes Wrong ever since I first heard about it. I saw a clip of it and it was hilarious. I'm glad that Peter Pan Goes Wrong is also hilarious and something that you and TD thoroughly enjoyed. It's also nice that you were able to catch up with your daughter in general. :-)

Have you ever seen (or heard of) Noises Off? That's another hilarious play about a play where everything goes wrong, and there's very specific comedic timing that has to happen, too.

I missed the chance to see Peter Pan... a few months ago, which was disappointing, because I really enjoyed the TV version, seeing The Play that Goes Wrong in a theatre, and I totally agree with you about The Goes Wrong Show.

Noises Off came to mind for me too ^___^ Never seen it but I once nearly did myself a mischief just reading it in script form. It is hilarious - I probably wouldn't survive an actual performance ^___^

(UK flist may like to watch The Goes Wrong Show on iplayer) I really must give this a whirl. I always say, "Oh, I must try that!" and then I never get round to it. But I must this time - it sounds like exactly my sort of thing ^__^

Also callously enjoying the image of poor you navigating the bathroom by phone light ^___^ I'm glad you and your daughter had a good time together.

So glad you both enjoyed PPGW. It's one of those plays that you can just sit back and enjoy, without having to struggle with Great Concepts or Tragic Endings. We only realised the consummate artistry of it all, on the way home afterwards!
