All things considered, I had a good birthday.  My mother phoned to wish me Happy Birthday - which wouldn't be unusual for many people, but she's in a care home and generally very woolly about dates, so that was a lovely way to begin the day.  We also got to see my son and granddaughter in the afternoon, which will be the last time for at least five weeks, so that was good.  And I treated myself to a livestream of a play from Chichester Festival Theatre.  I wasn't struck with the play, and it confirmed me in my view that live streaming isn't really for me, but I was treating more as a donation to a theatre we had liked when we'd been so I didn't regret it.

My son had made me a Mary Berry banana cake with honey icing, which was delicious.  And SM made me a chocolate cake, equally enjoyable.

My thanks go to [personal profile] mafief  [personal profile] shallowness [personal profile] corvidology and [personal profile] solosundance for their good wishes; [personal profile] moth2fic for a post featuring a spooky Tintern Abbey and [personal profile] rusty_armour for a very appropriate card featuring Raymond de Merville here , to  [personal profile] margaret_r [personal profile] luthienberen and [personal profile] moth2fic for their e-cards, all of which made me smile.  Also to [personal profile] stonepicnicking_okapi and [personal profile] debriswoman for all their good wishes.

[personal profile] stonepicnicking_okapi wrote me an amazing fic, which combined Shakespeare, Bagginshield and the Ferret, so was guaranteed to be a great success: The Play's The Thing

And friends and family gave me lots of crafty presents for my birthday, which was wonderful:

My mother gave me a craft tidy (I bought it for myself on her behalf) and here it is all sorted!

I'm glad that you managed to have such a nice birthday, despite the shadow of COVID-19. It's great that your mother phoned to wish you a Happy Birthday and that you were able to spend the afternoon with your son and granddaughter. That Mary Berry cake sounds delicious, and SM's cake looks delicious!

It's really nice that so many people sent you good wishes and other goodies, like e-cards and fic. It looks like you received a great collection of crafty gifts from your family. I guess it's a good thing that your mother bought you that craft tidy, which is very impressive btw.

What a lovely birthday for you, such gorgeous gifts and the cake looks yummy.

It's sad to hear about the lockdown, hopefully it will only be the five weeks. Our States are gradually coming out of restrictions but I'm not putting too much hope in seeing the grandkids before or even at Christmas just yet. It's been over twelve months, but maybe early next year we'll be able to travel.

I am so glad you had a good birthday. I am especially glad that you got a call from your mother. That is a nice way to start the day. And it looks like you need a craft tidy because you have a lot of crafting to do. And I saw badly knitted's new comm. So serendipitous.

That all sounds lovely! I got phone calls for my birthday, too, and husband shopped for, cooked, and cleared up after a gorgeous posh dinner. I got mostly books for presents but sis-in-law is a keen amateur painter and I got a fabulous card from her which will be framed. It's amazing what families can manage when they set their minds to it! We were already in tier 3 so actually meeting wasn't an option. I'm glad you had that togetherness which might carry you through the next few weeks!
