Snowflake Day 4: Goal Update

snowflake_challenge Challenge 4 is to create some goals.  Since I set my goals at the end of April each year, I don't intend to create any more at the moment.  On the other hand, I haven't done a review of my goals at all this year, and I had already been thinking I should do one, so this serves as a timely reminder.

Goal 1: Continue to write all the things
In fact, I've revised this, because I am cutting back on what I'm writing.  Word count wise 2020 was a good year, but I've tended to stick closer to what I know I enjoy writing and cut back on the bingos/challenges which are off my regular beat.  This relates to a change in emphasis from the autumn, when I decided to increase crafts and therefore reduce writing.

Goal 2: Do something new every month
Not the easiest of challenges, but with the help of story_works year long Take A Leap challenge I managed to do quite a bit.  The last few months (of which three will be in lockdown) will be harder, but I shall rely on FutureLearn to continue to provide some varied input.

Goal 3: Do some craft every evening when I'm home
Replace 'when I'm home' with 'not having a zoom meeting'.  That's going really well.  Even the last few days, when for various reasons I've been struggling a bit, I have managed to do some craft, be it one thread of cross stitch or a couple of rows of knitting.  And I always feel better for having done it.

And I've written individual blog posts for each goal so I can see my progress over the year.

The other goal I could include is my reading one for this year (at the end of the post)


In a month or two's time I shall have to think about my goals for next year.  I normally wonder whether to continue, but I think it helps to have something to concentrate on and inspire me to keep going when the days are hard.  I finish work at the end of March, so it may be that some of my goals change, but we shall see.

Yeah - it's getting the right balance so it's attainable but not a complete doddle. And also being prepared to say it ain't working and not beat yourself up about it.

What kind of things do you knit? I've always thought about doing it, but it seems so complicated.

I knitted a jumper for my granddaughter for Christmas, and I'm currently knitting a hat (I had the kit for Christmas). Also, at the moment I'm knitting a stegosaurus for my granddaughter for her birthday. I began knitting years ago and did a lot while the kids were small, but then stopped. I started again recently. I've got to the age where it would be easy to slide into doing the same things, so I like to try new ones - and if I don't like them that's fine, there's plenty more out there to try.

Good luck with your goals. I enjoyed your reflection on what you have achieved so far. All the best with setting new goals in March, I do think your method is wise, because 2020 was incredibly (and I suspect much of 2021 will be) tough, so being kind and realistic about our goals is more vital than ever :)
