Craft - Month 9

First up, the William Morris cross stitch is progressing very nicely, although I have cursed the navy thread on navy fabric. You can see (or not) it in the end of the wing of the bird (beneath the tail and under the strawberries).



My Klimt hat is also going well.  I've got used to knitting with a circular needle, something I used to hate, and was delighted with the way the braid turned out.



And the stegosaurus and triceratops I've knitted for my granddaughter's birthday.  More cuddly than fierce.

 

And here they are together in their bag.

I was initially unsure about the Morris, but now I'm really pleased with it.

I think I can JUST see a bit of the navy. Boy that has to be hard.

The hat looks fabulous, I envy the way you can work with two colours without it pulling too tight.

Steggy and Trixie are cute as buttons. Who wouldn't love knitted dinosaurs? Now I want living knitted dinosaurs visiting earth and Jack having to perform emergency first aid when one starts to unravel, lol!

I can see the navy if I hold it up to the daylight - which, of course, is impossible to sew at that angle.

There's a cheat with the hat. The rib and the braid are knitted two colours together, but the main hat is worked by slipping one colour and just knitting with the other, which I wasn't convinced about, but seems to be working.

I'm glad you like the dinosaurs. That sounds like a perfect fic - any objection if I use it as well?

I agree, that would be a terrible angle for sewing!

That sounds very clever, I must have another look at the picture in a minute.

Go ahead! Not sure if I'll do anything with the idea, so much to write and not enough time, but we shall see!

Ah I can't see the blue on blue, but the rest of the stitch is beautiful.

The knitted dinosaurs are awfully cute and marvellously done. I'm sure your granddaughter must adore them.

It is hard to see, unless you hold it up to the light, preferrably in daylight, which makes stitching it impossible. I have to feel to see if I've done the stitch.

I like the William Morris a lot. What is the Klimt hat going to be? The Kiss? Around your head? I like the stegosaurus especially. Very well done.

Thank you :) No, it's based on a Klimt pattern - I am not wearing The Kiss. Although one day I do want to cross stitch it ;) And I'm delighted you like the stegosaurus.

They all look really good. The cross stitch is going really well from the looks of it. I used to cross stitch all the time but I find it really difficult now to see the holes on the Aida so I don't do it anymore which I miss. The dinosaurs are gorgeous and I haven't a clue about normal knitting so I don't know how you did those.

Thank you very much. I'm short sighted, so I wear glasses for everything, except for reading my phone and cross stitch, which so far I haven't had a problem with. I was given a knitting book with 100 little knits for Christmas, so my granddaughter is getting a number of them.

Does the knitting book teach you how to knit? See I used to know how to knit, my gran got me knitting, but it's been about 30 years since I knitted anything and I'd like to try it again it's just learning how to do it.

Also I have reading glasses so I might try to cross stitch with those on and see if that helps.

The knitting book does have a brief how to knit section. I used to do a lot of knitting when the kids were small, but that was a long time ago (hence granddaughter) so I still remembered what to do. If you want instructions, I would recommend Lovecrafts which is where I tend to get my supplies from.

I don't think I'd ever be able to pick up the blue on blue, my eyes are too bad. The cross stitch is lovely, it's going to look beautiful when it's finished. And I do love the stegosaurus and triceratops, your granddaughter must have quite a collection of little animals by now, she has a very clever grandmother:)

I was stitching some more dark blue last night and will be very glad when I've finished that colour. At least I can be sure if I make an odd mistake no-one will notice!

That navy thread puzzle was a bit like Find Wally... (or a recent 'find Bernie' I've seen). You've made a good start - it isn't even the end of January yet!

Definitely not the easiest to find, or sew. I had the kit for my birthday, so that's three month's work.

The William Morris cross stitch looks amazing! I'm sure your struggles with the navy thread will be worth it in the end.

I really like that Klimt hat and the knitted dinosaurs are adorable. The triceratops is particularly good. :-)

Thank you. My mother taught me to knit, and I've had periods of knitting throughout my life. The hat main pattern is surprisingly easy.
