Writing - March 2022
Mar. 29th, 2022 10:02 pmThis is clearly not going to be a year when I write a lot. This month will probably be just over 7K, meaning about 27K for the year so far, and if I continue at the same rate this will be just over 100K for the year, well below my goal of 135K. I'm not sure how I feel about that. I've always enjoyed writing, but at the moment I don't seem to have much in the way of inspiration.
I've written drabbles/ficlets for
holmes_minor ,
watsons_woes ,
drabble_zone and
100words plus short fics for the three challenges on
fan_flashworks . And even
ficlet_zone didn't provide me with many words, although Daydream Believer was fun to write. (Another ficlet, ACD Holmes).
I'm currently writing my Stage of Fools exchange fic, which I should finish this week - it just lacks the final scene, plus comma re-arrangement.
So, failing anything else, I'm sharing a poem I wrote as part of a short online course on poetry. We had to take a poem written by John Keats 'Bright star, would I were as stedfast as thou art' and write a new poem ensuring that the word ending each line of our new poem was the same as that of the Keats' one.

Black cat, were I as confident in my art
As you are when wandering in the night
Your confidence and my doubt set us apart
For I guard my outpouring as an Eremite
My writing is a very hidden task
And your song would reach abroad to farthest shores
As you assail your female friend of whitest mask
In sounds which would frighten the fiercest Moors
You’re sure you’re welcome, confidence unchangeable
While I in throes of doubt beat at my breast
The volume of your song does swell and swell
But my words written lead me to much unrest
You share your song with all who take a breath
My poems remain with me until my death

It really ensures that you use language creatively and probably takes a poem in directions that it wouldn't have necessarily gone in originally. You've written a beautiful poem as a result of this exercise.
