Fannish Fifty: Winnie-the-Pooh

I'm a great fan of Winnie-the-Pooh - the original books by A A Milne in particular.  I have a Pooh Bear sweatshirt and a glass with Pooh Bear on it.  The Daughter loved Eeyore when she was younger and had several cuddly Eeyores.  She has less now but still owns some.  And we continue to hang her Eeyore decoration on the Christmas tree every year.

I also like writing Winnie-the-Pooh.  I like the charm of the original stories and the fun that can be had in the Hundred Acre Woods.  I have a more adult version where Tigger and Rabbit live together and Rabbit and Piglet receive books in brown paper wrappers.

And I have my Sherlock Holmes spin-off with Tigger Holmes, who has two Watsons, played by Eeyore and Pooh Bear, in the Granada David Burke and Edward Hardwicke manner.

And the first time I read Milne's The Red House Mystery I sensed similarities between Antony Gillingham and Tigger Holmes.

When we went to WDW this April one of my trip goals was getting a hug from Eeyore. He has always been my favorite. In order to meet the Hundred Acre Woods characters you have to have a meal at the Crystal Palace, so we did that. Long story short I got about three hugs from Eeyore and literally bounced after, I was so happy. It was the most magical non-ride moment of my trip. I now sleep with a giant Eeyore plush.

Oh wow - The Daughter would be so envious! What a wonderful experience. I now sleep with a giant Eeyore plush. I'm not surprised!

I dithered on the plush tbh, like we stopped in the store and I did not buy it, but I kept thinking about it, and then we ended up by the store again later and I decided it was fate and brought him home.

I too have an abiding love of Milne's books.

(This being something my British grandfather - and I - could recite from memory. :D)

I love some of AA Milne's children's poetry, as well.

Awww I loved Winnie the Pooh as a kid.Watched the cartoons and had a collected version of the books. My favorite was always Tigger :) So bouncy and happy and fun.

And the original book is now considered Public Domain ( I do not know how that works everywhere) .

Tigger Holmes could be an interesting idea

UK public domain is 70 years after the death of the author, so not yet here, as Milne died in 1956.

I'm fond of both Pooh Bear and Tigger.
