Fannish Fifty: Reading
Nov. 25th, 2023 09:42 pmOkay, this is probably stretching a point, but I enjoy reading books. And physical books in particular. I do like audiobooks for certain things: crafting, driving, doing chores, but sitting with a physical book in my hands has to be one of the joys in my life. And if I didn't read I wouldn't have found lots of the characters I've been including in my Fannish Fifty over the year.
I'm on Goodreads - you'll find me as Small Hobbit with my cat icon. This year my reading goal was 75 books, which I reached in the middle of this month. I shall almost certainly set the same goal next year, because it means about 6 books a month, which ties up with my general aim.
I did a quick analysis of my reading habits and found that 42 were borrowed from the library, while 33 were my own copies (not quite accurate, one book was borrowed from the vicar's husband, but it wasn't worth having him as a separate category!) As for genre: 9 books were non-fiction, 15 were fiction (various) and 51 were specifically crime fiction - no surprise there. So about two-thirds of my reading is crime fiction.
This year each month I aimed to read 2 from my library lists, 1 from my physical TBR list, 1 from a selection of 4 series I've been working through, 1 Shedunnit book and 1 new book (either bought or from the library). Next year I'm amending that slightly so that there will only be 1 from my library list but 2 from my physical TBR list as that has grown rather too fast. Theoretically I should then reduce both my library list and my TBR pile completely. It's much more likely that I will just start constructing the piles for 2025!

Date: 2023-11-26 01:08 pm (UTC)Mine are about finalised - still need to split my TBR into two groups and check my library list, but otherwise it's all ready. Like you I'm looking forward to my next reading year.

Date: 2023-11-28 11:00 pm (UTC)I, too, love Good Reads -- and I've actually tried finding you via the Friend Finder but could not. I'm under Naomi Starling, with a pic of myself and my gorgeous, redheaded husband (can't miss that red hair!) as my icon. Would love to be able to follow you there as well.
In my hiatus from writing, I've found myself rediscovering my old love for reading, and have definitely read far more books this year than I have -- why, probably since I was in grade school! :) I'm also SO completely with you with enjoying/preferring the feel of a physical book being held in your hands as you read the words from the page and let them breathe life into what you're reading! Please do feel free to find and friend me on GR!
I also wish there was a site like GR for movies/TV series...
