Jenny Maple is one of many prostitutes working in Soho in the 1930s.  She features in the 20,000 Streets Under The Sky trilogy, in The Midnight Bell, where she meets Bob and also in The Siege of Pleasure, which gives her backstory.

Jenny had spent all the money Bob had given her to pay for food, most of it had gone on drink, but that was what she’d wanted, so it had to be okay, right?  She was seeing him that evening; she could get some more off of him then.  They were due to meet at 7.30 but she wouldn’t arrive till 8, once the cheap café had shut, so when she said she was hungry he’d just have to give her the money.  In the meantime, she’d better find a punter or two, for she needed to pay the rent.
