Journaling prompt: What are your favourite summer-associated foods?

Not so much food, as the memory of summer picnics.  Which conjures up ideals of everyone sitting round a check tablecloth, relaxed and enjoying a selection of delicate foods.  Whereas the reality is the wasps after everything sweet.  The sudden gust of wind blowing over a tub of mini sausages and taking off with the pretty, carefully chosen, paper serviettes and causing children to rush madly after them, thus falling over and returning with muddy hands etc.  Trying to drink a mug of hot tea, because the calendar might say July but otherwise you'd never know, and having hair blow in the mouth.  And just when you think it's going to be okay after all, half the tablecloth blows up and falls on top of the iced cupcakes.

Of course, all this may be alleviated by sitting in the car because it's raining and still enjoying the bread rolls, packets of crisps and chocolate mini rolls - which certainly haven't melted.

Or even better, giving up on the whole idea and spreading the tablecloth out on the living room floor and picnicking at home!

SUMMER PICNICS, MY BELOVED ; u; I haven't done those since pre-COVID lockdown and this post makes me miss them, especially those impromptu living room blanket fort picnics!! xD

I rarely do them now - last one was probably a couple of years ago for The Daughter's birthday, when we sat on bails of hay. It used to be just as much fun on the living room floor.

Sounds like a typical British weather picnic (and actually sounding more appealing right now than what we've got. I was hoping these predictions of temperatures in the thirties were as piss-poor as the rain forecast I got for my holiday that came to very little - sadly I don't think it'll be the case).

It's very much what I remember - those typical picnics which were never quite as we hoped!

I love a good picnic because really, it's just about problem solving lol.

Like you said, sometimes you're outside and it's beautiful!

And other times we decided to just picnic in our car and park somewhere with a nice view. Honestly both experiences are beloved by me.

There's a lot to be said from enjoying the view with your picnic inside the car!

We actually had a few picnics around the time of the pandemic, funnily enough. In 2020 we sat outside with masks and ate food we wouldn't have to pass around, and later I finally got to meet my niece when my family had a picnic in a park near a library. Then the following year we went to a campground with sandwiches and snacks.

I think we figured picnics were okay because we'd be outside and it was easier to keep distance.
