I pinched this initiative from my daughter on Facebook (I obviously follow her on Facebook, how else would I know what she's doing?) and liked the idea, so I'm posting here as well:
I am participating in this Pay it Forward initiative: the first five people who comment on this status with "I'm in" will receive a surprise from me at some point in this calendar year. Anything from a book, a ticket, something home grown or made, a postcard, absolutely any surprise. There will be no warning and when the mood takes me and I find something that I believe would suit you and make you happy it will be sent. These 5 people must make the same offer in their Facebook status. Copy and paste this (don't share) on your profile so we can form a web of kindness and connection.
Only on LJ I'm not expecting people to also make the offer. This is entirely without strings.
Although if you find I've sent you a train ticket, be afraid, be very afraid. Yesterday I went to London for SHAM (Sherlock Holmes Annual Meet-up) and met-up with some of my friends, plus other Sherlocky people. All went well. I caught my train to go home, which left on time. But after Reading the train got slower, and slower. At Swindon there is a connection with a 5 minute time span to run down the stairs, under the tracks, up the stairs and along the platform; they may hold the train for a few minutes. We were 30 minutes late. Our train had gone and the next one wasn't for another 45 minutes. I have a form for compensation (again). Why was the train so slow? Further west there was a notification of a mandatory speed limit due to bad weather, which for reasons best known to itself, the train we were on had received. We travelled very slowly from Reading to Swindon because of bad weather in Devon.
ETA: If anyone still wishes to participate I am increasing the number, since I have so few friends on Facebook (primarily because it is a daughter tracking vehicle) that I doubt I will have five takers there.
