Fannish Fifty: Prudence Bulstrode
Nov. 5th, 2023 03:31 pmI would be surprised if many of you had heard of Prudence Bulstrode. She's a new acquaintance of mine and features in a new series of cosy mysteries written by Rosemary Shrager. Shrager is a chef who has had a number of television programmes, so it's not surprising that Prudence was herself a television chef.
I read the first book The Last Supper because it was a crime set in the Cotswolds and enjoyed it. There is cooking, there is a dead body, and Prudence works with her teenage granddaughter as assistant. Prudence is very much 'old school' whereas the granddaughter, Suki, is very attached to her iPhone and therefore makes good use of modern technology.
The second book The Proof in the Pudding is set in the Yorkshire Dales and apart from cooking and the dead body there are some great descriptions of the landscape in the snow.
The third book Too Many Cooks is out early next year and set this time in Cornwall. I'm looking forward to reading it, as I'm sure the library will be getting copies again.
