Painting on Natural Materials

This month's Dare to Dabble was the opportunity to paint on various different natural materials.

We began with our choice of acrylic paint, plus paintbrushes and I chose a piece of bark:



which I then painted various bugs and a bush for them to inhabit.  I am not a delicate artist, but enjoyed working with the bright colours:



My next project was to take a large stone:



and paint a lizard on top and round it:

   

From there, I moved onto mixing some of my paints together and painted a bird's head on another piece of bark, which was the lighter brown colour:



And finally I painted a peacock design onto a simple black feather:

They look great! I still can't see them on LJ, though, for some reason. It is odd.

It must lie in the importing process. I can't see the pictures on adafrog's LJ either, while I can see them on her DW just fine.

How wonderful! What was it like painting on a feather though? I would think you have to be very careful not to separate the feathery bits. Delicate work.

Thank you very much. The feather has masking tape on the back to hold the feathery bits together. That works surprisingly well, but I'm not convinced I can get the tape off without wrecking the feather.

What a genius solution! But yeah, getting it off the feather could prove tricky.

They look great, I particularly like the feather. Painting with acrylic is fun, you can do so much with it.

Clever you! I love the stone. I believe there are people who go around painting stones then leaving them all over the place for other people to find and enjoy.

I think it's great that you got to experiment with painting on natural materials. I especially like your peacock design on the feather and your lizard on the stone.

Yes, it was fun - the lizard is my favourite, and I was pleased with the peacock design.
